Three Great Reasons to Change Your Auto Flooring

Auto carpets

If you are like four out of ten people, you don’t just like your car — you love it. And with love comes a certain amount of attentive care.

Chances are that a couple of times a year, you vacuum out the inside of your car and its floors. But the chances are also good that you’ve never really given a second thought to replacing your auto flooring. Its just one of those things that you take for granted, which makes sense considering the other, and seemingly more serious issues that owning a car can face. Auto flooring and trunk mats are easily forgotten in-between oil changes and surprise axle replacements.

But, don’t be fooled by those innocent looking mats. The fact of the matter is that you should consider replacing your car’s carpeting if it is 10 years old, or older. The reason: they carry insane amount of bacteria and germs.

One study from Queen Mary University in London found that on average 700 different kinds of bacteria can be found inside cars. Only 60 are found in the average public toilets, so that should really put some things into perspective!

The dangers can be increased both by and for children — a study by the celebrity microbiologist Charles P. Gerba found that there were greater numbers of bacteria in cars that carried children, and also in places where food or drink had been spilled. Surveys found that 70% of drivers eat and drink in their cars.

Considering that Americans spend a lot of time in their cars — on their way to work, or to school or grocery shopping, that is a lot of germs to be consistently exposed to.

One way to combat these germs is to get replacement carpet for your car. The bacteria that has been trapped and growing there for who knows how long can be discarded, and you can begin again with fresh car carpeting. This time around, we know you won’t spill as much!

Consistent cleanings of these new mats will do a lot to combat bacteria. If you are engaged in particularly messy work or other activities, like hiking, you’ll probably want to invest in car flooring like floor mats and auto mats for easy cleaning!
